Yesterday I wrote about the new Titanic / Edwardian era shoe “Astoria” made by American-Duchess. Since I am also researching 1920′s shoes at the same time I was amazed when I saw a pair of nearly identical Astoria shoes in a 1922 clothing catalog. See the resemblance?

1922 Three Strap Pumps

"Astoria" Edwardian Shoes
Nearly 7 years after the popularity of the cross strap shoes were rampant in the early 1900′s these shoes were still being sold in the early 1920′s. The more I research shoes, clothing, and social history of the 1920′s the less I am surprised to see these shoes still available. The reason is while *most* 1920′s women were fad following the latest T-strap and Mary Jane shoe craze the older generation was much slower to adapt to the new styles. They wanted shoes that were familiar and comfortable and a bit more conservative than the ones the “flappers” were wearing. This is why you still see strappy short heel shoes and even lace up boots being sold in early 1920′s clothing catalogs. Good styles never go “out of style.” Well maybe not never. By 1925 you would not see these strappy boots or shoes in catalogs anymore. The craze for Mary Janes, T-Strap pumps, and heeled Oxfords were all that women were buying.
This is just one more reason to consider buying the Astoria shoes. You can wear them to your Titanic party this spring and a Great Gatsby garden party this summer. Perfect!
