1950s Dresses for Plus Size Gals

I received a request recently for some recommendations on where to buy vintage inspired 1950 dresses for plus size ladies. Here are some of the best sites I could find:

Chicstar.com – Has a handful of 1950′s plus size full circle dresses with fluffy petticoats at reasonable prices. They have a more contemporary flair to them with shorter skirts and darker colors then authentic 50s’s dresses however they lean on the party style of 50′s dresses and are therefor great for proms, weddings and other special occasions. If you want the late 50′s and early 60′s style of pencil dresses Chicstar carries those too. There is something supper sexy about a plus size gal wearing a 1950′s pencil dress. They are form fitting yet they can make the most curvaceous lady an instant bombshell. I highly reccomend pencil dresses!

UniqueVintage carries about 20 or so dresses in both full circle and pencil dress styles under their Plus Size Pin Up Clothing page. Since they carry multiple brands the choices are more diverse than Chicstar’s. One of my favorite, top quality brands, is StopStarring clothing. Made by a vintage loving plus size gal herself, StopStarring dresses fit really nice and are based on more authentic 50′s styling then other brands. Most of these 1950′s plus size dresses go up to 3XL with a few up to 4XL.

 Whirling Turban Although not geared for the 1950′s plus size gal they do have ready made and custom dresses up to 3XL. I really like the quality of dresses, the choices in fabrics, and the authentic designs. They specialize in custom 1950′s wedding dresses which are always gorgeous! Pin Up Girl clothing is a great place to start with an overall huge selection from a variety of designers including many who cater to the plus size crowd. The best part about this site is that the models are plus size and the photos are excellent for visualizing what the dress might look like on you.

Popular styles do sell quickly- as you can see many designs are already sold out. They do restock but the wait may take longer than you like.

 

BallyhooVintage - If genuine plus size vintage clothes are your thing then look no further then Ballyhoo Vintage. Her site carries dresses, skirts, blouses, and more in hard to find plus sizes. There is nothing quite like wearing vintage so if they have something in your size- buy it fast!

 

NOTE: As with any online clothing orders- be sure to read the size charts and or call the company directly to review your size. Most sites offer good returns policy’s but in some cases the cost of returning a dress is just as much as your original purchase.
