I just love that 1940′s style dresses are back in fashion. Even better is how modern designers are mixing both old and new styles into something fresh for us modern consumers. At Shabby Apple the designers have come up with some amazing dresses, swimsuits and even some vintage style jewelry. Their whole line is a blend of 40′s, 50′s and 60′s dress styles. Today I wanted to feature some of my favorite 1940′s inspired dresses. Take a look and you’ll see why this is one vintage modern designer to keep an eye on.
1940′s Vintage Inspired Dresses
The El Capitan dress from the Yosemite collection features a peplum bodice, cap sleeves and pencil skirt in a Navy Blue cotton/spandex materiel. Designed to flatter your curves. A Similar dress is Jacob’s Pillow in the Berkshires collection. Polka dots, peplum waist, cap sleeves-it’s very vintage.
The Ponderosa dress from the Yosemite collection has a gathering at the waist and gently puffed banded half sleeves that are very 1940′s in style. The Plaid pattern was also a popular choice in the 40′s. If you love these sleeves check out the Sandstone and the Mt. Greylock in the Berkshires collection.
The Carnival dress from the Carousel collection is patriotic with it’s Navy Blue fabric, wrap around a -line skirt and 3 white button detail. I love the elbow length sleeves too. Wear this to the next USO party!
The G. Cooper
from the 1943 collection combines fall pinstriped suit materiel with a classic 1940′s a-line shirt and fitted bodice. Love the button details too. It’s out of stock until fall 2011. I think it will be worth the wait!
The La Noche Negra and the Sundance Kid are two dresses from the Baja collection that have a WW2 military feel. Puff sleeves, narrow bodice, and gold buttons all combine for a tasty 40′s flavor.
If you need a 1940′s style swimsuit then you’ll love these one piece beauties. Low legs, short tops with spaghetti straps and lots of gathers makes these near replicas of 1940′s swimsuits.
One of the great features of Shabby Apple is that if you order an item and it doesn’t fit they will gladly ship you another one for free. That’s a great comfort when shopping online. So go for it. Find your next 1940′s inspired dress or swimsuit today.
